The Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI) wishes to fill up a vacancy for a Finance Administrator.
SERI is a non-profit human rights organisation. We work with communities, social movements, individuals, and other non-profit organisations in South Africa to develop and implement strategies to challenge inequality and realise socio-economic rights.
This position offers a competitive salary starting at R 300 000 per annum without additional benefits to be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
The successful candidate will work as part of SERI’s Finance team reporting to the Financial Manager.
To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of financial policies, procedures, and systems. In addition to being an excellent communicator, our ideal candidate will also have outstanding analytical and time management abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of payment requisitions
- Allocation of costs to different funders based on available budget
- Loading payments to the banking system
- Filing of financial documents
- Management of petty cash and travel advances
- Capturing and updating of financial transactions on Xero
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare and submit VAT refund claims
- Assist with external audit preparation
- Assist in the preparation and co-ordination of annual budget process
- Assist with preparing donor financial reports
- Ensure all payments and reconciliation of statutory returns and third-party payments are done and reconciled
Requirements:
- Minimum of a National Diploma in Accounting or equivalent
- At least two years of experience in an account department, NGO environment experience would be advantageous.
- Strong computer skills: MS Office, MS Excel and XERO
- Good interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving and analysis skills
- Fluency in English as well as one other South African language
- Interest in and, some prior engagement with, human rights law or litigation.
